Purpose
The purpose of this foundation is to develop technologies for the disabled
community that have mainstream economic applications.
Rationale
The rationale for this foundation is the problems that have surfaced as a result
of current disability technology development. Currently, disability technology
is being developed through task specific requirements. This translates into
technology being developed as a one purpose or dual purpose disability application.
Many of these applications have no industry or business application and thus
are very expensive to develop and maintain. With the limited population purchasing
power available to many in the disability community, and the dependency that
the majority have on government subsidies to purchase their equipment make
this industry unappealing to mainstream technology development. This foundation
will create a bridge to correct this gap. By targeting development money
to projects that will mutually benefit the disability community and the mainstream
industry we will allow for mass production of technologies within the disability
sector. This mass production will significantly lower costs and create a
development partnership between the disability community and the mainstream
industries. Without this link there will continue to be a gap between profitability,
and government dependence within the disability technology industry.
Gaps Addressed
The main gap that will be addressed within this foundation and its programs
are problems with fundraising and venture capital for disability projects.
Also, development and commercialization of mainstream technologies for the
industry, and commercial applications of the technologies will be facilitated.
